Saturday 1st December Match Reviews
Juniors
D Grade posted a great 2 game victory over Mooroopna Lawn to keep it well placed on the edge of the top four. The boys sets were really tight... Auri & Macen played well to win 6/3 and 6/5, whilst Travis & Hasim had two close sets, 5/6 and 4/6. In the girls sets, Tayler & Dalaney scored 6/4 but in the other three sets we went down. Things were looking bleak at the start of the mixed as we had to make up 8 games. In a fantastic performance, Molly & Macen won 6/0, Travis & Sarah 6/4 and then Tayler & Hasim combined superbly in their 6/2 win. Macen had an excellent morning winning all 3 sets, but it was a real team effort with everyone playing well.
Doubles 1 Crashes to First Loss The undefeated run of our D1 team came to an end yesterday when we succumbed to KP Red by 6 games. In hot & humid conditions, both men & ladies struggled against the consistent opposition - the men picking up two sets and the ladies just one. Andy & Tom's took little time to score a comfortable 6/1 win in the opening set, but from then on we were always up against it. Ayden & Jerry managed only 3 games and Andy & Ayden just 2 games, before Tom & Jerry held on in a tie-break after serving for the set at 5/2. In the ladies, Jan & Kaye had us off to a good start also, winning 6/3. Donna & Vikki recovered from a precarious 0/4 to go down 4/6. Donna & Jan lost 2/6 and Vikki & Kaye battled hard to miss out in a tie-break. At five games down going into the mixed the game was certainly winnable and after a 6/4 win to Andy & Donna and 6/2 to Tom & Vikki we were leading by a game. Alas, we were only able to get 2 and 3 in the final two mixed and the end result was a 7/57 to 5/51 loss. Tom continued his good form, winning all 3 sets. ******* |
Doubles 2 Topples Top Team A magnificent 3 game win over top team St Brendan's has underlined the great D2 resurgence. In a real battle of halves, our men (bolstered by quality fill-ins Stevie Wonder & the great man Owen Starrit) were victorious in all 4 sets, whilst our ladies were on the wrong side of the ledger in each of their sets. With the incentive of preferential treatment in the William Orr dining room this week, Owen was in scintillating touch in his 6/3 (with Steve) and 6/4 (with Jarrod) wins. Ralph & Steve (6/4) and Ralph & Jarrod (6/5) completed the cleansweep. The highlight of the ladies sets was the marathon 11/13 tie-break fought out by Julie & Pauline. Entering the mixed we were 3 games down and the first two mixed sets were where we won the match. Steve & Pauline blitzed their opponents 6/0 at #1, whilst at #2, Ralph & Julie teamed brilliantly for a 6/1 win - giving us an 8 game break. Despite dropping the last two mixed 3 and 4, the buffer was sufficient to give us a great victory. A huge thanks to Lorraine & Owen for filling-in at late notice. *******

A2 Bites the Dust at Karramomus Details coming shortly. A1 Goes Down to Shepp North A slight setback to A1's march up the ladder was orchestrated by the strong Shepp North at High School yesterday. The men's singles were split when Rick went down 2/6 and Mike had a great 6/2 win. Tania also had a 2/6 result, but Auntie Bev made amends in her three hour dual, holding out 6/4 over her much younger, fitter and trimmer opponent. Mike then teamed up with David for our only men's doubles win, cleaning up 6/1. Rick & Bill (2/6) and David & Bill (4/6) played well, but found their seasoned opponents too steady. Bev & Rose thought the humid conditions a great health tonic, grinding to a 10/8 tie-break win. Tania & Melinda also worked hard, just missing out 4/6 and Rose & Melinda then concluded the ladies proceedings with a 1/6 loss. We played really well in the mixed, with Bev & Rick teaming in perfect harmony to just go down in another tie-break, David & Melinda scoring nicely 6/3 and Bill & Tania doing likewise 6/2. An 8 game loss to the 2nd placed team is a good result and shows that we can match it with the top teams.
